Numerous food industries including the raw cheese, beef, and produce industries have long been plagued by poor EHEC (enterohemorrhagic E. coli) detection solutions. Traditional PCR-based EHEC screens have high unconfirmed positive rates due to the presence of non-EHEC competing organisms that also have eae and stx genes. As a result, some food products see a 15-20% incidence rate of EHEC natural contamination. 

bioMérieux researchers collaborated with the French Agency for Food, Environmental, and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES) and using Predictive Diagnostics, analyzed over 10-years of research to solve this problem. The results confirmed the existence of two additional biomarkers, that when analyzed alongside eae and stx genes proved to increase the accuracy of detection significantly.
